Rayner

Brian Rayner is Head of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Groote Schuur Hospital and University of Cape Town.

He is a past President of the Southern African Hypertension Society, and is an executive member of the African Regional Advisory Group of the International Society of Hypertension. His doctoral thesis studied salt sensitivity and salt sensitive hypertension in indigenous South African people.

He has a major interest in hypertension guidelines, and together with Profs Seedat and Veriava wrote the 2014 South African Hypertension Practice Guideline.

Dr Marshall Heradien

Dr. Marshall Heradien is a specialist cardiologist, he is in part time private practice at Netcare Kuils River Hospital. He has a dedicated interest in refractory hypertension and is highly experienced with interventional renal ablation therapy.

He has also performed extensive research on the topic, investigating not only its role in hypertension, but also in other cardiac diseases, e.g. atrial fibrillation. Dr Heradien is also an external lecturer/clinical tutor (Internal Medicine) at Tygerberg Hospital and holds a PhD in Internal Medicine.

Dr Heradien has received various awards throughout his career, including the Hamilton Naki Clinical Scholarship in 2016.
